Rajan vieraalla puolella kevät on paljon pidemmällä.

Saan suksetkin jalkaan iltalenkille.

On monta suuntaa, joihin lähteä, eikä kotiinkaan haluttaisi jäädä. En osaa valita.

Days off work and I've lost my voice. There's still enough to talk about in a good company and on the road to the North. The local pub of Kilpisjärvi is like a scene from a Kaurismäki -film.

The sun illuminates the morning, but the raging wind wipes off my hopes of a ski trip. Then why not head further up North? We end up all the way to Tromsø. The summer seems to be closer on the foreign side of the border.

I do get on my skis as we're taking the dog for his evening walk. Them fells on the Swedish side are further away than they seem to be. I stay true to my habits and take a few snow samples as I go. I'm definitely not going to be a mogul skier when I grow up.

I must be even more interesting company without the ability to talk. For once I would get to participate in a discussion concerning politics, but all I can do is wheeze a few words. Well, at least I'm laughing so much that I'm crying and my cheeks hurt!

On Monday we go skiing a bit longer. The wilderness opening up ahead looks compelling. We have to return home, though and this time I do remember to slow down for them bumps on the road. Thank you for the trip, thank you for the discussions for which I wish I could've given more, thank you for a place to sleep and for the company, thank you for the new acquaintances and thank you for the tears of joy.

And since my voice is still not where it's supposed to be and it seems to be very quiet at work, I have the whole week off. There's many directions to go and I wouldn't want to stay home, but I can't make the choice.
